Northland is the large suburban-style part of north Columbus that grew up around the Northland Mall after I-71 opened in the 1960s. It runs east of I-71 and north of the Cooke Road area, with Morse Road as its main commercial street, Karl Road dividing Forest Park East from Forest Park West, and Dublin-Granville Road (SR-161) and I-270 on its northern side. The mall closed in 2002, and the site is now Northland Village: state and county offices, a large Kroger, a performing arts center and the county dog shelter.

With so much retail and so many apartment complexes, a lot of our Northland work happens in parking lots. Cars that will not start outside a store on Morse Road, keys locked in a car at the Global Mall, a flat tire in an apartment lot off Karl Road. Morse Road and SR-161 are wide, fast roads with frequent turning traffic, so we also answer crash and breakdown calls on them, and on the I-71 ramps at Morse Road and SR-161. Apartment managers call us for private property towing.

Northland is well north of Downtown, so the drive from our yard at 1620 Harrisburg Pike is a longer one. The driver normally takes I-70 east to I-71 and heads north to the Morse Road or SR-161 exit. The en-route mileage is included in the price you get before dispatch. Call (614) 633-8163 or request a tow online.

Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Northland

  • Morse Road

Northland's main shopping street, with an I-71 interchange on its west end. Many of our Northland jobs are in the lots along it.

  • Karl Road

The north-south street dividing the Forest Park neighborhoods, with apartment complexes and small shops.

  • East Dublin-Granville Road (SR-161)

A divided highway and retail corridor north of Forest Park, with its own I-71 ramps.

  • I-71 on the west side

The North Freeway, our route in. Breakdowns near the Morse Road and SR-161 interchanges are common.

  • I-270 on the north side

The outerbelt runs along the top of the Northland area. We handle shoulder breakdowns there too.

  • Tamarack Boulevard

Runs through Northland Village past the Kroger, the state offices and the county dog shelter.

  • Tamarack Circle

The large roundabout at the heart of Forest Park East, with a cluster of small businesses around it. Tell us which spoke of the circle you are nearest so the driver enters on the right side.

  • Maize Road

Cuts through the Clinton Estates homes north of Morse Road, past Maize Road Elementary. School traffic crowds it in the morning and mid-afternoon.

  • I-71 Exit 116 (Morse Road)

The interchange most Northland drivers use. A car that quits on the ramp is a highway pickup, so the $75 surcharge applies.

Northland towing questions

My car will not start in a Morse Road parking lot. Can you help?

Yes. Dead batteries in store lots are an everyday Northland call. A jump start is a $75 flat fee. The driver connects a booster, gets the car running and checks the battery and charging system. If the battery is too weak, a new one can be installed on the spot. If something else is wrong, the driver loads the car and takes it to your mechanic.

Do you tow cars from Northland Village and the state offices there?

Yes. State and county employees and visitors at Northland Village sometimes walk out at the end of the day to a dead battery or a soft tire. We handle lockouts, jumps and tire changes in the lots there, and tow the car to a shop if needed. Tell the dispatcher which building you are near, such as the Kroger, the taxation office or Job and Family Services.

Stuck on the I-71 shoulder by the Morse Road ramps. What now?

Get the car as far onto the shoulder as the shoulder allows, put the flashers on, and keep your seatbelt fastened while you wait, unless staying inside feels unsafe. When you phone, say northbound or southbound and name the ramp you passed most recently. That stretch of I-71 is busy and the ramps are short, so police may ask that the car be moved quickly. Highway pickups carry a $75 surcharge, which is included in the quote you get on the phone.

Can you tow from apartment complexes off Karl Road?

Yes, for residents who need their own car towed, and for property managers through a written private property towing agreement. Under Ohio law, unauthorized-vehicle tows require proper signs at the lot entrances. If you manage a complex in Northland, call the office to set up an agreement. If your own car was towed from a lot, call the number on the posted sign.

How long is the trip from your yard to Northland?

Northland is one of the farther north-side areas we serve, since our yard is on Harrisburg Pike southwest of Downtown. Drivers take I-70 to I-71 north and exit at Morse Road or SR-161. Rush hour on I-71 can make a big difference, so the dispatcher checks traffic and gives you an estimate when you call. En-route miles are billed at $4 per mile.

Do you tow to the dealers on Morse Road or Easton?

Yes. We tow to any dealership or shop you choose, including those along Morse Road and in Easton just to the east. Loaded miles are $7 each. If the dealer's service department is closed, we can leave the car in their after-hours area with permission or hold it at our yard for $45 a day until they open. Let us know the dealer's name and we will confirm its address before the driver sets off.

Can you help after a fender bender on SR-161?

Yes. If anyone is hurt, call 911 first. If the car cannot be driven, call us after police are on the scene. We tow it to a collision shop of your choice, your home or our yard while you sort out insurance. Our accident towing page explains what to have ready, such as the police report number and your insurer's claim information.

Which nearby neighborhoods do you also serve?

Northland borders Linden to the south and Sharon Woods to the north, with Beechwold across I-71 to the west. We also serve Minerva Park and Westerville to the northeast. The rate card is the same in every one of these places. Ohio sales tax is figured by the county where the car is picked up, and the dispatcher adds it to your quote so the total holds no surprises.
