Repo towing at Auto Lyft USA means one thing: voluntary repossession towing. A borrower who can no longer keep a financed or leased vehicle agrees to return it, the lender or its servicer sets up the surrender, and we arrive at a scheduled time to collect it. The borrower knows we are coming and is usually standing there with the keys and the paperwork the lender sent.
We do not perform involuntary repossessions. We don't recover vehicles without the borrower's agreement, we don't search for accounts that have stopped answering, and we don't take cars from driveways or parking lots without notice. A lender that needs that kind of recovery should hire a repossession agency. Saying this plainly at the start keeps expectations accurate for lenders and borrowers alike, and it keeps our operators out of arguments in somebody's front yard.
For banks, credit unions, buy-here-pay-here dealers and leasing companies, the result is a calm handoff with good records. The driver photographs the vehicle, notes the mileage, collects every key, and delivers it to your storage lot, a dealer or one of Central Ohio's wholesale auto auctions. Borrowers who have already arranged a surrender with their lender can call too. To book a pickup, phone (614) 633-8163; written requests can go to lisa@autolyftusa.online, and we reply with the scheduling details and a quote.
When to call
Situations where voluntary repossession towing is the right call
Surrender at the borrower's home
The most common case: the lender agrees to take the vehicle back, and the borrower picks a time when they can meet the driver in the driveway or apartment lot.
Handoff at a workplace
Some borrowers would rather hand over the car during a lunch break at work. That works as long as the employer's lot allows a flatbed to load there.
A car that no longer runs
A surrendered vehicle with a dead battery or a failed engine still goes on the deck; the winch pulls it aboard and nobody has to push.
Lease returns
Lessees who can't get the vehicle to the return location can ask the leasing company to approve a pickup, and we carry it in for them.
Family and estate returns
Relatives settling a loved one's affairs, or borrowers who have moved out of state, can coordinate the return of a financed car through the lender and our office.
Straight to the sale
Lenders that want the unit sent directly to an auction or a dealer can have it delivered there. See dealer and auction transport for those runs.
On scene
How our drivers handle it
Lender confirms
Whoever calls, we check with the lender or servicer that a voluntary surrender has been agreed before a pickup is placed on the schedule.
Pickup window set
Dispatch arranges a time and place with the borrower, whether that is a home, a workplace or another spot both sides accept.
Condition record
At pickup the driver photographs every side, the interior and the odometer, counts the keys, and asks the borrower to check for personal belongings one last time.
Delivery and report
The vehicle goes to the lot, dealer or auction the lender named, and the photos and drop-off details are sent to the lender's contact.
Voluntary surrender compared with involuntary recovery
In a voluntary surrender, the borrower and the lender agree that the vehicle is going back, and the borrower helps make the return happen. In an involuntary repossession, the lender recovers the vehicle without that cooperation. We only handle the first kind. If a borrower declines on the day of the pickup, our driver leaves without the vehicle and we let the lender know.
We are not a party to the loan, so we can't answer questions about the remaining balance, a deficiency, or how a surrender shows up on a credit report. Borrowers should get those answers from the lender, and if needed from an attorney or a nonprofit credit counselor, before the pickup date.
For borrowers: getting ready for the pickup
A little preparation keeps the handoff short and avoids a trip back to the lot later for something you forgot.
- Empty the glovebox, trunk, door pockets and the space under the seats.
- Take out garage openers, toll transponders, phone mounts and child seats.
- Gather every key and fob, including spares tucked away at home.
- Keep the letter or email from your lender confirming the surrender.
- Take your own photos and a picture of the odometer for your records.
- Tell dispatch ahead of time if the vehicle won't start or has a flat.
Where we make pickups
Surrenders happen in apartment lots off the I-71 corridor, in driveways across the west and north sides, and in suburbs ringed by I-270. Our yard on Harrisburg Pike puts us close to the Columbus core and to most of Franklin County, and the full coverage list is on the service areas page.
Voluntary Repossession Towing: questions and answers
What is voluntary repo towing?
It is towing for a vehicle the borrower has agreed to give back to the lender. The lender approves the surrender, a time is arranged, and the borrower meets our driver to hand over the keys. Because everyone has agreed in advance, the pickup is quiet and quick, and the lender gets a photo record of the vehicle's condition.
Do you perform involuntary repossessions?
No. We only pick up vehicles that the borrower has agreed to surrender. We don't take a car without the owner's consent, we don't locate vehicles for lenders, and we don't do overnight recoveries. Lenders that need those services should work with a repossession agency set up for that work.
Who can schedule a surrender pickup?
A lender, a servicer, a dealer that finances its own sales, a leasing company, or a borrower who has already made the arrangement with the lender. However the request reaches us, we confirm the surrender with the lender before a truck is booked, which protects the borrower and the lender alike.
Does the borrower need to be there?
Usually yes, because the borrower hands over the keys and confirms the vehicle is empty. If the borrower can't be present, the lender and borrower can agree on another plan, such as keys left with a family member, and we follow whatever they put in writing.
Can the borrower just drive the car to the lender?
If the lender allows it, that is often the simplest route. We are most useful when the vehicle doesn't run, the borrower has no way home from the lender's lot, or the lender wants the car delivered somewhere specific, such as an auction or a reconditioning shop.
What happens to belongings left in the car?
Our driver asks the borrower to check the vehicle before it is loaded. Anything found later is handled according to the lender's instructions, and the borrower should contact the lender to get it back. The surest approach is to empty the car completely the day before the pickup.
Where do surrendered vehicles go?
Wherever the lender directs: its own storage lot, a dealership, a reconditioning shop or one of the wholesale auto auctions in Central Ohio. If the lender needs a few days to choose, the vehicle can wait at our Harrisburg Pike yard until a destination is confirmed.
How much does repo towing cost a lender?
The office quotes the price before any work is scheduled, based on the pickup location, the destination and the vehicle. Lenders with ongoing volume can apply for an approved business account with monthly invoicing. The rates page describes the general parts of a towing bill.
Do lenders get photos of the vehicle?
Yes. The driver photographs the exterior, the interior and the odometer at pickup, and takes another set at drop-off. Those images go to the lender's contact with the delivery details, so the condition of the vehicle on surrender day is documented by someone outside the loan.
Will a voluntary surrender affect my credit?
Your lender is the right place to ask, along with an attorney or a nonprofit credit counselor. We handle the transport only and are not part of your loan agreement, so we can't tell you how the surrender will be reported or what balance may remain afterward.
What if the borrower changes their mind that day?
Then the driver leaves without the vehicle and nothing is loaded. A voluntary pickup depends on the borrower agreeing at the moment we arrive. We let the lender know the surrender did not happen, and any next step is between the borrower and the lender.
Can you pick up a car that won't start?
Yes. A dead engine or battery is no obstacle; our flatbeds winch a non-running vehicle onto the deck, and skates go under any wheel that won't roll. Tell dispatch about the problem when the pickup is booked so the driver plans for it and the appointment doesn't run long.
Do you handle surrenders outside Columbus?
Yes, across Franklin County and the surrounding counties, including Delaware, Licking, Fairfield and Madison. For a pickup farther away, the dispatcher can quote a longer trip or suggest how to arrange it. Our long-distance towing page covers vehicles going to another city or state.
Can the lender pick the pickup time?
The lender can propose a window, but the borrower has to be able to meet it, since a voluntary surrender depends on their cooperation. Dispatch usually settles the time directly with the borrower once the lender gives the go-ahead, then confirms it with both sides the day before so nobody is caught off guard.
What voluntary repossession towing costs
This work is priced per job because the equipment, distance and time vary so much. Call (614) 633-8163 with the details and the office quotes it before anything is scheduled. See the rates page for our standard charges.
