Towing in Delaware, Ohio: Our Longest Regular Run North

Delaware is the county seat at the top of our map, a college town on the Olentangy River that we reach by US 23 or I-71 from southwest Columbus.

  • Open 24/7, 365 days
  • Flatbed-only fleet
  • Price quoted before dispatch
  • Licensed & insured

Of all the towns we cover regularly, Delaware is one of the farthest from our yard. The city sits close to 26 miles north of 1620 Harrisburg Pike as the crow flies, and the drive is longer than that once you follow US 23 or I-71 out of Columbus. We would rather be straight with you about that distance: when you phone, the dispatcher checks which flatbed is nearest and gives you a live arrival estimate, and if the wait is longer than you can manage, we say so.

Calls here come from a recognizable set of places. US 23 is the main route in from the south and meets US 36 at the city, while William Street carries US 36 and SR 37 east toward I-71 and west through downtown. Sandusky Street runs north-south past the courthouse blocks and the Ohio Wesleyan campus, where student cars and on-street spaces make up a good share of our lockouts and jump starts. Add the fairgrounds, Grady Memorial Hospital and the industrial streets on the city's edges, and you have most of the Delaware map.

Because of the distance, many Delaware jobs are tows heading back toward Columbus: a car going to a dealer, a specialist shop or the owner's home in another suburb. A flatbed handles those long moves without adding miles to the drivetrain. Our long-distance towing page explains how longer trips are arranged, and the quote is always given before a truck heads north. Call (614) 633-8163.

Where calls come from

Roads we get called to in Delaware

  • US 23

The main highway between Columbus and Delaware, with long stretches of signals and commercial driveways south of town. A stall here usually means guiding the car into a business lot before loading.

  • William Street (US 36 / SR 37)

The east-west route through downtown that continues east toward I-71. Curb parking near the core keeps loading tight, so the driver may ask you to wait in a side street.

  • Sandusky Street

Downtown's north-south main street, passing the county courthouse area and the edge of the Ohio Wesleyan campus.

  • US 42 near the Olentangy River

Shares a short stretch with US 36 by the river before heading southwest toward Plain City; bridge approaches leave little shoulder room.

  • US 36 / SR 37 east to I-71

The connector our trucks often use to reach Delaware from the interstate side, and a frequent site for commuter breakdowns.

Around Delaware

Colleges

  • Ohio Wesleyan University

A residential campus close to downtown; move-in and move-out weekends pack the surrounding streets, so give the driver a building name.

  • Methodist Theological School in Ohio

A seminary on a wooded hillside campus south of the city center, with lots that are quiet at night and easy to load in.

Landmarks

  • Delaware County Fairgrounds

Home of the Little Brown Jug harness race; during fair week, traffic and grass parking change everything about how a truck gets in and out.

  • Historic Northwest Neighborhood

Hundreds of older homes and carriage houses on narrow streets, where backing a carrier into an alley takes patience.

  • The Strand Theatre

The downtown movie house; evening shows mean curbside spaces nearby turn over constantly.

  • Delaware Municipal Airport (Jim Moore Field)

The city airport southwest of downtown, where we pick up cars left by pilots and hangar tenants.

Hospitals

  • OhioHealth Grady Memorial Hospital

The city's long-standing hospital; patients' and visitors' cars that won't start can often be revived in place.

Schools

  • Rutherford B. Hayes High School

On Euclid Avenue, with a Pacers mascot that honors the Little Brown Jug.

Parks

  • Delaware State Park

North of the city on the lake; boat-ramp lots and grassy overflow areas are where we tend to winch out stuck vehicles.

Towing in Delaware: common questions

Do you really send a truck from southwest Columbus all the way to Delaware?

Yes. Delaware is near the outer limit of the area we cover regularly, but it is inside it. A driver usually takes I-71 to the US 36 / SR 37 exit or heads straight up US 23, depending on where your car is. Because the trip is long, the dispatcher gives you a live estimate and tells you right away if a long wait is likely.

Is it worth paying to tow my car from Delaware to a shop in Columbus?

Sometimes it is, especially for a dealer repair under warranty or a specialist you trust. Other times a shop in Delaware is the sensible choice. The dispatcher can quote both destinations so you can compare before deciding. The way distance factors into the price is laid out on our rates page.

What happens to traffic around the fairgrounds during Little Brown Jug week?

Fair week brings huge crowds and grass parking to the fairgrounds, and the nearby streets back up for hours. If your car quits there, tell us which gate or lot you are near and whether the vehicle is on grass or pavement. Grass that is wet from rain may need a short winch before the car is loaded.

Can you tow a student's car near the Ohio Wesleyan campus?

Yes. Students often call for lockouts and dead batteries around campus housing and the downtown blocks. The owner or the registered owner's written permission is needed before we move or open a vehicle, and we will happily take the car to a local shop or ship it home on a longer run.

My car broke down on William Street downtown. Can you load it there?

Usually, yes. Downtown loading is tight because of curb parking and steady traffic, so the driver may stop in a side street and ask you to steer the car around the corner while it rolls. If it cannot roll at all, they will set cones and load from the travel lane as quickly as possible.

Do you pick up vehicles at the Delaware Municipal Airport?

We do. Pilots and hangar tenants sometimes need a car moved off the airport grounds, whether it has a dead battery or has sat too long. Let us know where the car is parked and whether gate access is required, so the driver can arrange entry before arriving. The car can go to a Delaware shop, back to your home, or to our yard if you are flying out again soon.

Stuck in the mud by the lake at Delaware State Park — can you help?

Yes. Boat ramps, gravel pull-offs and soft grass near the lake trap vehicles after rain. Our winch-out service brings the car back to firm ground from a stable position, and if there is no damage you can drive away instead of taking a tow. Tell the dispatcher which lot or ramp you are at, because the park has several separate entrances off the main road.

Which other towns near Delaware do you cover?

Our coverage around Delaware includes Lewis Center, Powell, Sunbury, Marysville, Westerville and Dublin. If you are heading somewhere in between, such as a home in Powell or a dealer near Polaris, the driver can take the car there on the same trip. Several of those towns sit between Delaware and our yard, which makes them a natural stop on the way back south.
