Ohio Wesleyan has been in Delaware since 1842 and spreads across roughly 200 acres on the edge of downtown, with Sandusky Street running through the middle of it. It's a residential liberal arts school that draws students from around the country, which shapes the kind of calls we get there. Auto Lyft USA handles Ohio Wesleyan towing for jump starts, lockouts and tows to local shops, and for the longer job of carrying a student's car back home.

Delaware is its own city, the seat of Delaware County, with a historic downtown, residential blocks of older homes and US-23 and US-36 carrying most of the traffic in and out. Our yard sits on Columbus's southwest side, so a call to Delaware is a real drive, and we price it honestly: the en-route mileage is part of every quote, stated before a driver leaves.

Every tow is on a flatbed. For a parent several states away, that means the student's car makes the trip home sitting on a deck, not rolling on its own tires behind a truck, and the price for the whole trip is settled on the phone before anything happens.

Should you call us or someone closer?

We'll be straightforward: for a simple jump or lockout, a company based in Delaware may reach you faster and cost less in travel miles than we will. We're glad to take the call, and the dispatcher will tell you the full price, including the drive up from Columbus, so you can decide.

Where we make the most sense for Ohio Wesleyan students is the bigger jobs. A tow from campus to a Columbus-area shop the family already uses, a tow home to another part of Ohio, or a trip out of state at the end of the year. On those, the en-route leg is a small share of the bill and the flatbed ride is most of it.

The end-of-year trip home

When a car stops running late in the spring semester, families often face a choice: fix it in Delaware and have the student drive it home, or send it home on a truck. If the repair is expensive or the car is old, the second option is often simpler.

A long-distance tow works like this. The parent calls with the student's contact information, the car's spot on or near campus and the home address. We quote the trip: the $125 hook-up, $7 for every mile with the car loaded, and $4 per mile from our yard to Delaware. The student meets our driver with the key. The car rides on the flatbed to the driveway or the family's shop. We cover anywhere in Ohio and in the neighboring states.

If you'd rather keep the car in Ohio and repair it, we'll take it to a shop you pick, or recommend one of the independent Columbus-area garages we partner with for diagnosis and a quote. We're a towing company; the shop does the repair.

Describing your spot in Delaware

Campus is split by Sandusky Street, so start by telling us which side of Sandusky the car is on. Then give the nearest building or residence hall, the street, and whether you're in a university lot or parked on a city street. If you're downtown, name the business you're near.

On the road between Delaware and Columbus, give us the route (US-23, US-36 or I-71), the direction and the last exit or cross road you passed. Highway pickups add $75.

Price breakdown for a Delaware call

Everything is on our rate card. Roadside visits are $75 flat. A tow starts with a $125 hook-up and runs $7 for every mile the car is on the deck. The en-route charge is $4 per mile, and because Delaware is well north of our yard, that line is noticeably larger than for a Columbus call. Weekends add $50, calls from 10 PM to 6 AM add $150, and Ohio sales tax is added for Delaware County. You'll hear the total before we commit a truck.

Ohio Wesleyan University: what drivers ask

Is Ohio Wesleyan towing from Columbus worth it for a jump start?

Sometimes not, and we'll tell you that. A jump is our $75 roadside rate, but the en-route charge is $4 per mile from our yard in southwest Columbus, and Delaware is a long way north. A local company may cost less for a quick jump. We're the better fit for tows to Columbus-area shops and long-distance trips, where the drive up is a smaller share of the total.

Will you take my kid's car from Ohio Wesleyan to another state?

Yes, to any of the states that border Ohio as well as anywhere inside it. No miles go on the odometer; the car sits on the deck from Delaware to the destination. You pay the $125 hook-up once, $7 per loaded mile and $4 per mile for us to reach Delaware. Give the dispatcher both addresses and you'll get the full total, including sales tax, before you say yes.

Can I arrange the tow if I live out of state?

Yes. Phone (614) 633-8163 or book online. We need a way to reach your student, the car's location near campus and the destination address. You get the quote and settle the details; your student brings the key and meets our driver at the car. If you pay online by card, there's a 3% fee.

My car is on the other side of Sandusky Street from my dorm. Does that matter?

It helps us find it. Sandusky Street splits the campus, and knowing which side the car is on, along with the nearest building and the lot or street, lets the driver head straight there. Keep your phone on and be ready to walk across with your ID and key once the driver is close.

Do you charge Delaware County sales tax?

Yes. Ohio sales tax goes by the county of the pickup, so collecting the car at Ohio Wesleyan carries Delaware County's rate. The dispatcher includes it in the quote along with the rest of the charges. If the car is picked up somewhere else, such as a shop in Franklin County, that county's rate applies instead.

My car broke down on US-23 driving back to campus. What should I do?

Get onto the shoulder or off at the next road if you can, put your hazards on and stay buckled in. A car dead in a traffic lane is an emergency, so 911 hears about it before we do. Then tell the dispatcher which direction you were driving and the nearest cross road or exit. A highway pickup adds $75 to the normal rate.

Do you help visitors who come to Delaware for events at Ohio Wesleyan?

Yes, anyone can call. Families on a campus tour, guests at commencement, fans at a home game: if the car won't cooperate, tell us where you're parked and what's wrong. For a straightforward jump or lockout we'll be upfront that the drive from Columbus adds cost, and you can decide what works best for you.

Can you tow the car to a shop in Columbus instead of Delaware?

Yes. Some families already have a mechanic in the Columbus area, or prefer a shop there. Most of that price is the distance south on the deck. Families without a Columbus mechanic can ask us about the independent shops we work with, which look the car over and phone in an estimate. You decide on the repair once they've looked at it.
