Columbus Motorcycle Towing That Keeps Your Bike Upright

Your bike rides on the carrier deck standing up, its front tire locked in a chock and its frame held by soft ties, from the roadside to your garage or shop.

Motorcycle towing takes different gear than moving a car, and riders know it. A bike has two contact patches, a high center of gravity and plenty of parts that bend or scuff if a strap lands in the wrong place. Auto Lyft USA hauls bikes across Columbus on the same tilt-deck flatbeds we use for cars, fitted with a wheel chock that grips the front tire so the motorcycle stands on its own while the driver secures it.

Once the bike is chocked, soft loop straps go around solid points such as the lower triple clamp or handlebar risers, and ratchet straps pull it down evenly so the suspension compresses slightly and stays there. Nothing metal touches the paint, and the bike never lies on its side. Sport bikes, standards, cruisers, adventure bikes and dirt bikes all load this way, and so do trikes and heavy touring machines as long as they fit on the deck.

When you call (614) 633-8163, let the dispatcher know what you ride, whether it rolls and steers, whether you have the key, and where the bike is sitting. A motorcycle down in a ditch or on a grass shoulder may need a little recovery work first, and the driver plans for it. The total for the job is quoted before a truck is sent, so the number is settled up front.

When to call

Situations where motorcycle towing is the right call

  • Breakdown on a ride

A dead stator, a snapped chain or a flat rear tire on I-71 or a county road leaves you stranded with no trunk and no spare. We bring the bike and you home.

  • After a crash or tip-over

A dropped bike with a bent lever, broken clutch perch or damaged forks shouldn't be ridden. We load it carefully and take it to the shop or your garage.

  • Bike night that ends early

If your bike won't fire up in the parking lot after a weekly bike night, the deck gets it home without a push or a borrowed trailer.

  • Hocking Hills and US-33 rides

Riders heading southeast on US-33 toward Logan and the Hocking Hills sometimes break down well outside town. We go out to get the bike; the trip is priced before we leave.

  • Seasonal shop runs

Spring service, winter storage, new tires or a dealer warranty visit: schedule the move and skip the hassle of renting a trailer.

  • Buying or selling a bike

Picked up a used bike from a seller across town? We can collect it and drop it at your place once the paperwork is done.

On scene

How our drivers handle it

  1. Look it over

The driver checks the bike, notes any existing scratches or damage, and asks about anything loose, fragile or aftermarket before touching it.

  2. Roll it into the chock

With the deck tilted, the bike is walked or winched up and the front tire is set into the wheel chock at the front of the bed.

  3. Soft ties, even tension

Soft loops go around strong frame points and the ratchet straps are tightened evenly from both sides, keeping the bike straight up.

  4. Recheck before rolling

The driver shakes the bike to confirm it is solid, checks every strap and tucks loose ends away so they can't flap against the bodywork.

Riding season around Columbus brings its own calls

From the first warm weekend in spring through late fall, most of our bike calls follow the riding crowds. Weekly bike nights at bars and restaurants on the edges of town, group rides heading out of Delaware and Lancaster, and day trips down US-33 toward Logan all produce their share of breakdowns. A bike that quits 50 miles from home is a long walk, and most riders don't keep a trailer handy.

We cover the city and the surrounding counties starting from the Harrisburg Pike yard, close to where I-70 and I-71 split. For a breakdown well beyond the outerbelt, the dispatcher prices the whole run before the truck leaves. For trips to another city or state, see long-distance towing.

Help us load your bike faster

A few details from you make the pickup smoother, especially at night or on the side of a busy road.

  • Have the key ready so the steering lock can be released and the bike can roll.
  • Take off saddlebags, tank bags or a tail bag that holds valuables, or tell the driver they are staying on.
  • Point out aftermarket parts like low-mounted pipes, fairing lowers or a tail tidy that straps should avoid.
  • If the bike is in gear and won't roll, tell the dispatcher so the driver brings the right equipment.
  • Know where it is going: home, a dealer or an independent shop, with the address.

Trikes, touring bikes and other big machines

Three-wheelers and heavy touring motorcycles are welcome, and the main limit is the deck. A trike with a wide rear axle or a bike towing a small trailer needs to fit within the bed and the carrier's weight rating. Tell the dispatcher the make and model, and if anything is unusual about the setup, they will confirm it fits before sending a truck. The same carriers move cars every day; flatbed towing explains the deck itself.

Motorcycle Towing: questions and answers

How does motorcycle towing on a flatbed work?

The deck tilts down and the bike is rolled or winched up into a wheel chock that holds the front tire. Soft loop straps go around strong points on the frame or bars, and ratchet straps pull the bike down evenly from both sides. It travels upright the whole way and is never laid down or dragged.

What will motorcycle towing in Columbus cost me?

The total depends on the distance to the bike, how far it is going, the time of the call and whether there is any recovery work. The dispatcher quotes the complete job on the phone before anyone is assigned. Our rates page breaks down how a tow is billed.

Can you tow a Harley or other heavy touring bike?

Yes. Big cruisers and baggers load into the chock just like smaller bikes, and the soft straps are placed so they avoid the fairing, bags and chrome. Let us know if the bike has a trailer hitch, extra lighting or anything else hanging low.

Do you tow trikes and three-wheeled motorcycles?

Yes, if the trike fits on the deck and within the carrier's weight rating. Most factory and conversion trikes do. Give the dispatcher the make and model when you call, and the fit gets checked on the phone, not in the parking lot.

Will the straps scratch my bike?

We use soft loops at the contact points so the ratchet hooks never touch paint or chrome. The driver chooses frame points that can take the load and keeps straps away from plastics, mirrors and wiring. If you have a preferred tie-down spot, point it out.

Can you pick up a bike that has been in a crash?

Yes. A damaged bike can still be chocked and strapped as long as the front wheel holds air and turns, and we have ways to handle it if it doesn't. If police are on scene, they may decide where the bike goes; our accident towing page explains that process.

Can I ride along with my motorcycle?

Often one person can ride in the cab, depending on room and the length of the trip. Mention it when you call so the dispatcher can plan for it. Bring your helmet and gear with you rather than leaving them strapped to the bike.

How long will I wait for a truck?

Wait time depends on how far the closest carrier is from you and what traffic looks like at that hour. The dispatcher works out a current estimate when you call and keeps you posted. We dispatch at all hours, every day of the year.

Do you tow dirt bikes, scooters and mopeds?

Yes. Smaller bikes are actually quicker to load. Dirt bikes are chocked and tied down the same way as street bikes, and scooters with small wheels may be strapped a little differently. The dispatcher will ask what you have and where it is.

What if my bike won't roll or the key is missing?

A bike stuck in gear or with a locked steering head is harder but not impossible. The driver can use the winch and position it carefully. Let the dispatcher know ahead of time so the driver has extra time and equipment ready.

Can you pick up a bike outside Franklin County?

Yes. We regularly go out to surrounding counties, and rides toward the Hocking Hills on US-33 are a common reason. Longer trips are priced as a single job before dispatch, so you know the full figure before the truck heads out.

Can you take my motorcycle to a dealer for service?

Yes. Many riders schedule a pickup for a warranty repair, tire change or spring tune-up. Give us the dealer address and their hours. If they are closed when we arrive, we can hold the bike at our yard and deliver it once they open.

Is motorcycle towing available at night?

Yes. Bike nights and evening rides mean plenty of calls after dark, and our dispatch is staffed around the clock. The driver uses work lights at the scene and parks the truck to protect you and the bike from passing traffic.
