Lockbourne and Rickenbacker: Where We Tow South of the Outerbelt
Lockbourne is a small canal village sitting beside Rickenbacker's cargo airport and rail terminal, and our calls there reflect both sides of that.

Lockbourne is about 9.2 miles south-southeast of our yard. To get there we normally take I-270 east to the US-23 exit at South High Street and head south, or come down Alum Creek Drive past Obetz when the call is on the airport side. US-23 runs along the village's western edge, and SR-762 links it east to Rickenbacker International Airport.
The village itself is compact: a few streets around Commerce Street, the old canal lock in Lock Meadows Park, several churches and a veterans park. What surrounds it is much bigger. Rickenbacker's cargo operations, the Air National Guard station, Norfolk Southern's intermodal terminal and large distribution campuses such as ODW Logistics pull a constant stream of commuters through the area. Plenty of our Lockbourne calls are those commuters, stranded on SR-762 or in a warehouse lot after a long shift.
The rural stretches of US-23 and the township roads outside the village also send us cars that slid off in bad weather, which is where a winch-out comes in. Every car we move rides on a flatbed, which matters for the low-slung commuter cars and newer SUVs we see in the warehouse lots. Call (614) 633-8163 and the dispatcher will give you a price and an arrival estimate before sending anyone.
Where calls come from
Roads we get called to in Lockbourne
US-23 (South High Street)
Skirts the village's west side, with its outerbelt interchange at exit 52. It is a fast divided highway, so a shoulder stop sits close to moving traffic.
SR-762
Extended in 2015 as a connector to the Rickenbacker intermodal yard, and now carries heavy container-truck traffic alongside commuters.
Alum Creek Drive exit off I-270 (Exit 49)
The outerbelt exit signed for Rickenbacker; our trucks use it for calls on the north side of the airport.
Commerce Street
The village's main street, with the village office and the way into Lock Meadows Park.
Rowe Road at Rowe Bridge
A 150-foot steel span at the west end of the village. Tell us which side of the bridge you are on so the driver approaches from the right end.

Around Lockbourne
Parks
- Lock Meadows Park
Home to Lock No. 30 of the Ohio and Erie Canal, the sort of lock the village is named for; parking is limited, so say where you left the car.
- Lockbourne Veterans Park
Flags, memorial bricks and a gazebo; the Memorial Day parade closes nearby streets, so a tow that morning may need a longer way in.
Landmarks
- Rickenbacker International Airport
A cargo-focused airport next door to the village; if your car is in an airport or tenant lot, the driver needs the lot name and any gate instructions.
- Rickenbacker Memorial Wall
A granite tribute to the people stationed at the former air base, the Tuskegee Airmen and WASPs among them.
Big employers
- Rickenbacker Air National Guard Station
Opened during World War II as Lockbourne Army Airfield; entry is controlled, so plan to have the car at a public spot or arrange access before we arrive.
- Norfolk Southern Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal
The rail-to-truck container yard that opened in 2008, and the reason so many semis share SR-762 with local drivers.
- ODW Logistics campus
A group of large warehouses on Schieser Farms Road, where night-shift workers sometimes come back out to a car that will not start.
Schools
- Hamilton Township High School
The Rangers' school on Rathmell Road, shared by Lockbourne, Obetz, Reese, Shadeville and the rest of the township.
Towing in Lockbourne: common questions
Which way do your trucks come to Lockbourne?
From 1620 Harrisburg Pike, the usual route is I-270 east and then US-23 south from the South High Street exit. For jobs on the Rickenbacker side we may come down Alum Creek Drive instead. Lockbourne is about 9.2 miles away in a straight line, and the dispatcher bases the live estimate on where the nearest truck happens to be.
Can you pick up a car parked at Rickenbacker airport?
Yes, from public parking and from tenant lots where we are allowed in. Give us the lot or building name and the gate you came through. If the car sits inside a secured area, someone with access will need to bring it out to us or escort the driver in, because we cannot enter restricted ground on our own. Have the car's keys with you at the meeting point.
My car won't start at a warehouse off SR-762. Can you help?
Yes, and that is one of the most typical calls we get around Lockbourne. Tell the dispatcher the employer, the building address and where in the lot you are standing. The driver will try a jump start first and load the car only if it still will not run. Long walks across a big lot in the dark are no fun, so you can wait in the building until the truck pulls up.
My car slid off a country road near Lockbourne. Can a flatbed get it out?
Often, yes. The driver uses the carrier's winch to draw the car out of a shallow ditch or a soft field edge, then looks it over before you drive away, or loads it if something is damaged. A very deep ditch or a steep drop may call for a different approach, and the dispatcher will ask questions to judge that first.
Is the US-23 shoulder near Lockbourne safe to wait on?
Traffic there moves quickly. If you can, ease the car onto a side road or into a business lot before it quits completely. If you are stuck on the shoulder, switch on the flashers and, when it is safe, stand well back from the pavement, behind a guardrail if one is close by.
Does the Memorial Day parade affect tows in the village?
It can. The parade and the ceremony at Veterans Park close streets in the village center for part of the day. If you need a tow that morning, give the dispatcher your street so the driver can find an open way in, and expect a short wait while the route clears.
How is the price worked out for a tow in Lockbourne?
We add up the distance from the yard, the distance to your destination and any special work such as a winch-out, then quote the total before a driver heads your way. The figure stays put unless the job turns out to be different from what was described, such as a car buried deeper in a ditch than expected. The rates page sets out the details.
Do you also tow around Commercial Point and Groveport?
Yes. Lockbourne sits between several towns we cover. Commercial Point is a few miles west along SR-762, and Groveport and Obetz lie a short way north and east, so a carrier working anywhere in this corner of the county can usually be redirected to you. The car can also be dropped at a shop in any of those towns.
