Polaris isn't one parking lot. It's a two-level mall that opened in late 2001, wrapped by a long run of big-box stores, chain restaurants, hotels and office buildings strung along Polaris Parkway on both sides of I-71. Lewis Center sits just to the north and Westerville to the east, so a breakdown "at Polaris" could mean a dozen different places. That spread is exactly why we ask good questions before we send a truck.

Auto Lyft USA covers Polaris towing and roadside work around the clock with four flatbed carriers out of our Columbus yard. The calls we see here split roughly three ways: shoppers whose car died in a mall lot, office workers whose battery gave up after a full day in a parking space, and drivers who limped off I-71 at the Polaris Parkway exit with a warning light glowing.

Whatever the situation, you get a firm quote over the phone, a live arrival estimate from the dispatcher, and a flatbed if the car has to be moved. We take it to the destination you pick, whether that's home, the dealership or an independent shop.

Pinning down where you are

The quickest Polaris calls are the ones where the driver knows exactly where to turn. Store names are far more useful than parking-lot descriptions, because many of the lots look alike from the road. If you're at the mall itself, the closest anchor store or entrance is ideal. If you're in a plaza along the Parkway, the business you parked in front of works well.

Sharing a map pin from your phone helps too. Text it to the number the dispatcher gives you, or read out the cross street if you can see one.

  • Mall lot or garage: nearest entrance or anchor store, plus level if it's a structure.
  • Parkway plazas: the storefront you're facing and which side of I-71 you're on.
  • Office parks: building name or street number, and whether the lot is gated.
  • Hotels: the hotel name and whether the car is in front, beside or behind the building.

When the car sat all day at work

Polaris has a large daytime workforce, and a lot of those cars sit untouched from morning until evening. A weak battery can handle one cold start but not the second one at 6 PM after the interior light was left on or a phone charger drew current all day. If the starter clicks or the dash flickers, a jump-start is the first thing to try.

If the car starts with a jump but the battery is several years old, drive it straight to wherever you plan to have it tested rather than stopping on the way. If it dies again, we can put a new battery in on site through our battery service or tow it to a shop that can check the charging system.

Busy weekends, holiday crowds and the I-71 exit

Polaris Parkway gets heavy on weekends and through the holiday shopping season, and the interchange at I-71 (Exit 121) backs up when the mall is full. That doesn't change our prices, but it can change arrival times, which is why the dispatcher gives you an estimate based on the traffic at the time you call rather than a stock answer.

If your car quits on the ramp or the interstate shoulder near the exit, stay with it and keep the hazards running. Highway pickups add $75 to the bill. On the Parkway itself, which has several lanes and a lot of turning traffic, it's fine to coast into the nearest lot entrance if the car still rolls.

Prices around Polaris

We charge our standard published rates here. Roadside help is $75 flat. A tow starts with a $125 hook-up, then each mile with your car on the deck is $7. Both add $4 per mile for the drive out from our yard on the southwest side, and weekends carry a $50 surcharge. The full list is on our rates page.

One local wrinkle: the Polaris area sits near the line between Franklin and Delaware counties, and Ohio sales tax on the invoice is based on the county where the car is picked up. The dispatcher will tell you which applies.

Polaris Fashion Place area: what drivers ask

Do you do Polaris towing on Sundays and holidays?

We do. Our dispatch line is staffed every day of the year, including holidays when the mall is packed with shoppers. Saturday and Sunday calls include a $50 weekend surcharge, and overnight work, 10 PM to 6 AM, is another $150. You'll hear the full price, surcharges included, before a driver is sent, so there's no surprise on the invoice.

My car is in the parking structure at Polaris Fashion Place. Can a flatbed get in?

Sometimes. Garages vary, and we don't guess at clearances we haven't measured. Read the height limit posted at the entrance to the dispatcher. If the flatbed fits, we load the car where it sits. If not, the driver can walk a jump pack in, and if the car can be started or rolled down to an open level we can load it from there.

I'm in a hotel lot near Polaris and from out of town. Can you help?

Yes. Give the dispatcher the hotel name and where the car is parked. If you don't know local shops, we can suggest an independent repair shop that will diagnose the problem and call you with a quote. If it's a rental, call the rental company first, because many of them have their own roadside program and rules about who can tow their vehicles.

Which towns near Polaris do you cover?

All of them. Polaris borders Lewis Center to the north and Westerville to the east, and much of it carries Columbus addresses, so we're regularly on calls in every direction from the interchange. We also cover Powell, Sunbury, Delaware and the rest of central Ohio from the same yard.

Can you replace a battery in a Polaris parking lot?

Yes, for most cars. The driver tests the old battery, and if it's failed, fits a replacement right there in the lot. The service call follows our $75 roadside rate plus en-route mileage, and the battery itself is priced separately; ask the dispatcher for the battery cost for your vehicle before we head out.

Do you push cars out of a parking space if they won't roll?

If a car is stuck in park, has a locked wheel or a dead electronic parking brake, the driver has ways to move it without damage. Every truck we run is a flatbed with a winch, so a car that can't roll can still be pulled onto the deck carefully. Let the dispatcher know up front if the car won't shift out of park.

Is Polaris towing cheaper if I'm only going a few miles?

The loaded miles will be few, so the tow portion stays low: $125 to hook up plus $7 for each mile on the deck. What usually decides the total is how far our truck travels to reach you, billed at $4 a mile from our yard. Use the estimate tool to see the full figure for your pickup and drop-off.

My car died on I-71 right before the Polaris Parkway exit. What should I do?

Pull as far off the travel lanes as the shoulder allows and leave your hazards on. Stay buckled in with the doors shut. Call us and tell the dispatcher you're on I-71, your direction, and that you're just short of Exit 121. Highway pickups carry a $75 surcharge. A car still poking into a lane, or anyone injured, means dialing 911 ahead of us.

Will the driver wait while I finish shopping?

We'd rather you be at the car when the driver arrives. A jump-start or lockout needs your keys and ID, and a tow requires a signature and directions for the drop-off. When the dispatcher gives you an estimate, plan to head back a few minutes before it. The driver will also phone you on the way in.
