Tanger's open-air outlet center sits on South Wilson Road in Sunbury, close to the Exit 131 interchange, where I-71 meets the US 36 and SR 37 corridor. It's a destination as much as a local mall: people drive in from all over central Ohio, and plenty of travelers heading up or down I-71 pull off for an hour of shopping. That mix means a breakdown here is often far from the driver's home and regular mechanic.
Auto Lyft USA covers Tanger Outlets towing and roadside calls every hour of the year. Our yard is on the southwest side of Columbus, roughly 24 miles from Sunbury as the crow flies and farther by road, so we're upfront about mileage: the dispatcher quotes the full trip, including the drive out, before anyone leaves.
Small problems get solved in the parking lot for a flat $75 plus mileage. Bigger ones get a flatbed ride, either to a shop in Delaware County, back to Columbus, or to your own mechanic in another town. Every tow we run is a flatbed tow, which keeps all-wheel-drive and electric cars safe on a long highway haul, and you decide the destination before the car is ever loaded.
Open lots, open weather
Because the center is open-air, cars sit in the full sun in July and in wind and snow in January. Summer heat is hard on batteries that are already weak, and a car that starts fine in the morning can refuse after three hours baking in the lot. Winter cold does the same thing from the other direction. A jump-start is usually all it takes, and a battery that fails its test can be replaced before you leave the lot.
The walk between stores also leads to a lot of locked-in keys, especially when shoppers are juggling bags at the trunk. A lockout is a flat $75 roadside call plus en-route mileage.
- Tell the dispatcher which row or which storefronts you parked closest to.
- Wait in a shop or your car rather than standing in the lot in extreme heat or cold.
- Keep your ID with you; we confirm ownership before opening a car.
When home is a long way off
If you drove in from Mansfield, Marion, Zanesville or farther, you may not want your car fixed by a shop you've never heard of. We can carry it home or to your usual mechanic on the flatbed. Longer trips are priced the same way as short ones, just with more loaded miles: $125 to hook up plus $7 for every mile the car is on the deck. Our long-distance towing page explains how we plan those runs.
If you'd rather have the car looked at nearby and drive it home yourself, we can suggest an independent partner shop that will diagnose the problem, quote the repair and wait for your go-ahead. We don't repair cars, so the choice is entirely yours.
Breakdowns on I-71 around Exit 131
The stretch of I-71 near the Sunbury exit carries fast through-traffic between Columbus and Cleveland. If your car falters before you reach the ramp, stop on the right shoulder as far from the lane as you safely can, hazards on. Highway pickups carry a $75 surcharge. Tell the dispatcher your direction and roughly how far you are from Exit 131, or read off the nearest mile marker.
Working out the total
Since the drive from our yard to Sunbury is longer than to most Columbus shopping centers, en-route mileage at $4 per mile makes up a bigger share of a Tanger bill. The dispatcher will give you the full figure up front. Weekend pickups add $50, and overnight calls add $150. See the rates page for the complete card, or put your pickup and drop-off into the estimate tool.
Sunbury is in Delaware County, so Delaware County's sales tax rate applies to the invoice.
Tanger Outlets Sunbury: what drivers ask
Do you provide Tanger Outlets towing on busy holiday weekends?
Yes. Holiday sales bring some of the biggest crowds of the year, and we keep dispatching through them. Weekend calls carry a $50 surcharge. Because the lots fill up, it helps to tell us the nearest store and whether you're in a main row or an overflow area. The dispatcher gives you a live estimate based on traffic at the time.
Is it expensive to get a tow truck out to Sunbury?
It costs more than a call in central Columbus only because of distance. Our en-route charge is $4 per mile from our yard, and Sunbury is one of the longer drives in our regular area. Nothing else changes: roadside calls are $75 flat and tows are $125 plus $7 per loaded mile. The dispatcher quotes the full amount before sending the truck.
Can you tow my car from Tanger back to my hometown?
Yes. Tell the dispatcher where you want the car to go, and we'll quote the trip based on the loaded miles. For a long run, call the destination shop first to make sure someone can receive the car, or arrange for it to go to your driveway. Remove valuables and anything you'll need that night before the car is loaded.
My car won't start after sitting in the sun at the outlets. Is it the battery?
Often, yes. Heat speeds up battery wear, and a battery near the end of its life can fail on a hot afternoon. A clicking sound or dim dash lights point to the battery; a strong crank that won't catch points elsewhere. The driver will try a jump first and test the battery. If it's failing, we can replace it on site.
I locked my keys in the trunk at Tanger. Can you open it?
We can open the doors, and on most cars that gives access to a trunk release or fold-down seats. Some cars lock the trunk separately, which can make retrieval harder. Tell the dispatcher your make and model and where the keys are. The driver will show you what they can do before starting, and the service is billed at our $75 roadside rate plus mileage.
What if the car quits on the interstate just short of the Sunbury exit?
Yes. Give the dispatcher your direction of travel and the nearest mile marker or exit. A $75 highway surcharge applies to interstate pickups. Keep your hazards on and stay belted in with the doors closed while you wait. If you're partly blocking a lane or anyone is hurt, dial 911 before you call us.
Which nearby towns do you also cover?
We cover Sunbury itself plus Galena, Lewis Center, Delaware, Westerville and the rest of the I-71 corridor down into Columbus. All of central Ohio is served from the same yard at the same published rates; only the en-route mileage changes with distance. If you're visiting from outside the region and need the car taken farther, the dispatcher can quote that run too.
My car has a flat in the Tanger lot and no spare. What are my options?
If there's an inflator kit and the puncture is small, the driver can try it. If that won't hold, the car can go on the flatbed to a tire shop or your home. Tell us your tire size if you know it, and the dispatcher can give you the total for the tow before we set out from the yard.
