You land at John Glenn Columbus International after a week away, ride the shuttle or walk out to the car, turn the key, and get a click. It happens more than most travelers expect. A car that sits untouched for days slowly drains its battery, and a cold snap or a heat wave while you're gone finishes the job. The good news is that it's usually a quick fix.

Auto Lyft USA handles towing at CMH airport and roadside calls in the airport's garage and surface lots at any hour, including the late-night arrivals when few other options are open. Most dead-battery calls end with a jump and you driving yourself home. When the car truly won't run, we load it on a flatbed and take it to your house, your dealer or an independent shop.

CMH sits on the east side of Columbus, reached by I-670, with Gahanna right next door. Our yard is on the southwest side, and the dispatcher will give you a live estimate when you call. If you're still on the plane or waiting at baggage claim, it's fine to call ahead which gets a truck on the road while the carousel is still turning.

A week in long-term parking and a battery that gave up

Modern cars never fully sleep. Alarm systems, keyless-entry receivers, telematics and computer memory all draw a little current, and over seven or ten days that can be enough to drain a battery that was already a few years old. Short trips before you left, a dome light left on, or very cold or hot weather make it more likely.

When you call, tell the dispatcher which parking facility you used, the level or section, and the row marker if you noted it. Many travelers photograph the sign by their space; if you did, that's perfect. The driver brings a portable jump pack and can walk it to the car if the truck can't reach your spot.

After a jump, drive straight home or to a shop without shutting the car off on the way. If the battery is older than four or five years, consider having it tested soon, or ask us to replace it on site.

  • Before you fly: photograph your parking row and level.
  • Make sure headlights, dome lights and accessories are off.
  • If your car has a weak battery already, ask a shop to test it before a long trip.

Garage and lot logistics at the airport

Airport parking is run by the airport authority and its parking operator, and it has its own rules. Before calling us, check whether the parking operation offers any motorist help to its customers; it costs nothing to ask, and if they can't help, we can. You'll still need to pay your parking fee at the exit as usual; we don't handle that for you.

Parking structures have height limits, and we won't send a flatbed into a deck it doesn't fit. Jumps, lockouts and tire changes don't need the truck inside. If the car must be towed out of a structure, the dispatcher will ask for the posted clearance and talk through options. See parking garage towing for how we approach those jobs.

Meeting the driver after a late flight

If your flight lands late, you can wait somewhere warm and lit rather than in the lot. Give the dispatcher a phone number that will be on, and the driver will call when they're close. Keep your ID and keys ready. If the car is a rental, contact the rental company instead: rental fleets at the airport have their own roadside arrangements.

For a breakdown on the airport roads or the curb, follow any instructions from airport police or staff. Drivers can't leave a car sitting in a pickup lane, so tell the dispatcher exactly where you are and whether anyone has asked you to move.

What it costs to get help at CMH

Our published rates apply at the airport exactly as they do elsewhere. A jump, lockout, tire change or battery call is $75 flat. A tow is $125 to hook up plus $7 per loaded mile. Both add $4 per mile for the drive from our yard. Late arrivals should know that the overnight window, 10 PM to 6 AM, carries a $150 surcharge, and weekends add $50. If the car has to stay in our yard while you wait for a shop to open, storage is $45 a day.

John Glenn Columbus Airport: what drivers ask

Do you provide towing at CMH airport after midnight?

Yes. We dispatch around the clock, so a late-arriving flight doesn't leave you stranded. Overnight calls between 10 PM and 6 AM include a $150 surcharge, which the dispatcher adds to your quote before the truck leaves. If your car is in a secure lot and you're able to get home another way, you can also schedule the call for the morning.

My car sat in airport parking for ten days and won't start. Is it just the battery?

Usually. Clicking, dim lights or a dash that flickers when you turn the key all point to a drained battery. A jump will typically start it, and the driver will check that the car keeps running. If the engine cranks normally but won't fire, or the battery won't take a jump at all, we'll talk through towing it to a shop.

Can you reach my car inside the airport parking garage?

For a jump or lockout, yes; the driver can carry equipment to your level. For a tow, it depends on the garage's posted height limit and the ramps. Tell the dispatcher the facility, level and row. If the flatbed can't fit, we'll look for a safe way to get the car to an accessible spot, often by starting it so you can drive it down.

Can I call you before my plane lands?

Yes, and it can save time. Call once you know your car may be dead, for example if you left a light on, or call from baggage claim. Give the dispatcher your parking location and the time you expect to be at the car. The driver will phone you when they're getting close so neither of you waits long.

Who pays the airport parking fee if my car is towed out?

You do. Our charges cover the towing or roadside service only. The parking fee at the exit is between you and the airport's parking operation, and you should settle it before or as the car leaves. Keep your ticket or payment card with you so that the exit goes smoothly when the driver arrives.

My rental car won't start at CMH. Should I call you?

Contact the rental company first. Airport rental fleets have their own roadside service, and your agreement may not allow outside towing. They can often swap you into another car at the rental counter faster than any tow. If they tell you to arrange help yourself, we're available, and we'll provide a receipt for reimbursement.

Can you tow my car from the airport to a shop in Gahanna?

Yes. Gahanna borders the airport, so loaded miles stay low. We'll take the car to the shop you choose, or suggest an independent partner shop that diagnoses the problem and quotes the repair before doing anything. If it's after hours, check whether the shop has a key drop before we head over.

Is towing at CMH airport more expensive than elsewhere?

No. We don't add airport fees. You pay our standard published rates: $75 flat for roadside help or $125 plus $7 per loaded mile for a tow, plus $4 per en-route mile and any surcharge for overnight, weekend or highway work. Veterans get 10% off with ID, and Franklin County sales tax applies.

What if I have a flat tire in the airport lot?

We'll mount your spare if you have one in good shape; that's a $75 roadside call plus mileage. Check that you know where the wheel lock key is if your car uses one. No spare, or a spare that's also flat, means the car rides the flatbed instead, to a tire shop or your driveway.
