Beechwold is the northern end of the Clintonville area, running from Henderson Road up to Morse Road along North High Street. West of High, toward the Olentangy, is Old Beechwold, a historic district of stone, brick and stucco homes laid out on winding lanes beside a wooded ravine. East of High the streets are straighter and the houses newer, and Bishop Watterson High School anchors the stretch along East Cooke Road. A brick gate on High Street is all that is left of a short-lived zoo that operated here in 1905.

Our Beechwold calls tend to come from three places. In the historic streets west of High, cars sit in narrow drives and old garages, and the curving roads make it tricky to position a flatbed. Along Cooke Road and around Watterson, school-day traffic brings fender benders and stalled cars at pickup time. Just north of Morse Road, the Graceland Shopping Center lot produces a steady run of dead batteries and lockouts, even though it sits just past the neighborhood line.

Of our north-side runs, Beechwold ranks among the longer ones from our yard at 1620 Harrisburg Pike, well up the north side of the city, roughly halfway between Downtown and the outerbelt. Drivers take SR-315 to Henderson Road for the river side, or I-71 to Cooke Road or Morse Road for the east side. The full price, including the trip from the yard, is quoted on the phone first. Beechwold towing questions

Can a flatbed get into the winding streets of Old Beechwold?

Usually, yes. Our carriers are light-duty trucks, so they handle tighter turns than a heavy wrecker. The bigger challenge is finding a straight, level spot to tilt the bed near your car. On some lanes the driver will load from the nearest wider section and winch the car there. If your car is in an older garage with a narrow door, tell the dispatcher so the driver can plan ahead.

My car stalled on Cooke Road during school pickup. Can you help?

Yes. Cooke Road near Bishop Watterson gets very crowded at the start and end of the school day, and a stalled car in a lane causes a backup quickly. Turn on your hazards and, if it is safe, have the car pushed to the curb or into a lot. Call us with the closest cross street. The driver will load quickly and move on, or try a jump start first if that is likely the problem.

Do you handle breakdowns in the Graceland Shopping Center lot?

Yes. Even though it is technically just north of Beechwold, it is a lot we get sent to again and again. Dead batteries, keys locked inside and flat tires are typical. Each of those is billed at our $75 roadside rate. If the car needs a tow, we load it right in the lot and take it to your choice of shop or home.

Why does a Beechwold tow cost a little more in travel than one on the south side?

Because the truck comes from our yard on Harrisburg Pike, southwest of Downtown, and en-route miles are billed at $4 each. Beechwold is near the northern edge of the city, so the drive is longer than for a call in Hilltop or Franklinton. The hook-up fee and loaded-mile rate are the same everywhere. The dispatcher includes the travel charge in the price you hear before the driver leaves.

What route does the driver take to Beechwold?

For homes on the river side of High Street, SR-315 to the Henderson Road exit is usually the most direct. For streets east of High, near Watterson or Morse Road, I-71 to the Cooke Road or Morse Road exit works better. When both highways are congested, the driver may come straight up High Street. The dispatcher tells you about how long the drive should take.

My car has been sitting in the garage all winter. Can you get it running?

Often. A car that sits for months usually needs a jump, and sometimes air in the tires. The driver will try a jump for $75 and check the tires. If the battery will not take a charge, a replacement can be installed on site. If the car still will not start, we tow it to your mechanic or suggest an independent partner shop to find the cause.

Can you tow a classic or collector car from an Old Beechwold garage?

Yes. Every tow we do is on a flatbed, which is the safest way to move an older or valuable car. The driver uses soft straps, protects the bodywork and loads at a gentle angle. If the car has low clearance or a fragile front end, tell us ahead of time so the driver brings extra ramps. See flatbed towing for more.

Which nearby areas do you also cover?

Beechwold borders Clintonville to the south and Old North beyond that. Across the river is Northwest Columbus, and Worthington is just up High Street. We serve all of these, along with Northland to the east, with the same flatbeds and rates. If you are heading somewhere after the tow, such as a rental car counter or home, ask the dispatcher whether you can ride along in the truck; it depends on the vehicle and the driver's load, so we confirm it on the call.
