Old North Columbus begins where campus ends. Lane Avenue forms its southern edge, the Olentangy River and Tuttle Park sit on the west, and the neighborhood climbs north along High Street toward the Glen Echo ravine and Clintonville. Two arches with the neighborhood's name stand over High Street at its north and south ends. In the 1800s this was a separate village and a stagecoach stop on the road to Worthington, and the older storefronts between Hudson and Dodridge streets still show it.
The calls we get here split two ways. South of Hudson Street, close to Ohio State, it is a lot of student cars: dead batteries after a long break, flat tires in back lots, keys locked inside. North of Hudson, and along the wooded Iuka and Glen Echo ravines, it is homeowners with cars in narrow driveways or tucked into garages off alleys. Ravine streets curve and dip, so on icy mornings we also get cars that slid against a curb and cannot be driven.
The trip from our yard at 1620 Harrisburg Pike is a northbound one. Drivers take I-71 to the Hudson Street exit when the car is east of High, or SR-315 to the Lane Avenue exit and back over the river when it is closer to Tuttle Park. Either way, the dispatcher prices the job before anyone leaves. Call (614) 633-8163 or request a tow online.
Street by street
Where we pick up cars in Old North
North High Street
The neighborhood's main street, with a historic commercial stretch between Hudson and Dodridge. Parking is tight and turnover is fast.
Hudson Street
The main east-west route, connected to I-71 at its own exit. It is how most of our trucks reach Old North.
Lane Avenue
The southern edge, crossing the Olentangy to an SR-315 interchange. Game days fill it with traffic.
Indianola Avenue (US-23)
Carries US-23 through the east side of the neighborhood, past rentals and small apartment buildings.
Dodridge Street
One of the few Olentangy crossings in the area, useful for drivers working their way up Olentangy River Road.
Medary Avenue
A residential street west of High with an 1890s school building on it. Parked cars line both curbs, so the driver may load from the closest corner.
Wilcox Street
A short cross street meeting High beside a large church. A good corner to name if you broke down on the commercial strip.
Norwich Avenue
Home to a pioneer log cabin that was moved here. Curb spaces are packed near campus, so describe the car and the nearest house number.
West Oakland Avenue
Tuttle Park is addressed on this street, so it is the one to give us for a car parked at the park.
Northwood Avenue and Patterson Avenue
Older blocks between High and Indianola, with front-porch houses and tight curb space for a carrier.
Silver Drive
Usually treated as the east edge of Old North, beyond Indianola. Calls here are often a short hop from the I-71 ramps at Hudson.

Old North towing questions
My car slid on an icy ravine street and hit the curb. Can you tow it?
Yes. The streets along the Iuka and Glen Echo ravines dip and curve, and a car can easily slide on a frosty morning. If it bent a wheel or suspension part, it should not be driven. Putting it on a flatbed solves that, since the damaged wheel never touches the road. If the car went off the pavement, the driver can winch it back first, billed at $150 an hour for winching.
Do you tow on OSU game days in Old North?
Yes, but Lane Avenue and the blocks near it get extremely busy on home game Saturdays. If your car is north of Hudson Street, it usually is not a problem. Closer to Lane, expect the driver to hold off until the crowd thins, or to come at your street from the north. The dispatcher will be honest about how long it might take. Our Ohio Stadium page has more about game-day pickups.
How do you reach a car in a garage off an Old North alley?
Many houses north of Hudson have small garages on narrow alleys. The carrier usually waits at the alley entrance or on the street, and the driver pulls the car out with the winch line. If the car will not roll, wheel dollies help. If the alley is too narrow for the truck at all, we may need to bring the car to the street a few feet at a time. Tell the dispatcher the setup when you call.
Can you jump start a car that sat over winter break?
Yes. When students come back in January, dead batteries are one of the most common calls in Old North. A jump is $75. The driver will also check the tire pressure, since tires often go soft over a few cold weeks. If the battery will not take a charge, a replacement can be installed on site, which usually makes more sense than a tow.
Which way does the truck come to Old North?
From our yard on the southwest side, the driver usually takes I-71 north to the Hudson Street exit, which comes out on the east side of the neighborhood. For cars near the river or Tuttle Park, SR-315 to Lane Avenue is quicker. On busy days the dispatcher picks the route that avoids the worst traffic and gives you an approximate arrival time.
Can you tow from the Tuttle Park lots?
Yes. Cars with dead batteries or locked keys at the pool, ice rink or skate park are a regular call. The park stretches a long way beside the river, so name the lot nearest you: pool, rink or skate park. A jump or lockout is a $75 flat fee. If the car needs to go to a shop, the driver loads it in the lot and takes it wherever you want.
Where can you take my car from Old North?
Anywhere you choose: your home, a dealer, a collision shop or your regular mechanic. We are a towing company, not a repair shop, so the choice is yours. If you do not have a mechanic, we can suggest an independent partner shop that diagnoses first and quotes before any work. Our repair page explains the services those shops typically handle.
What other neighborhoods are close to Old North?
Old North sits between the University District to the south and Clintonville to the north, with Beechwold a little farther up High Street. We serve all of them, plus Upper Arlington across the river, at the same published rates on our rates page. Since these neighborhoods share High Street, a single call can cover a tow that starts in one and ends in another, for example from campus housing to a shop in Clintonville.
