Weinland Park sits just south of the Ohio State campus, from Fifth Avenue up to Chittenden Avenue, with North High Street on the west and a rail line along the east side. It is mostly older frame houses and apartment buildings, with a growing number of new homes on the Grant Park blocks along its eastern edge, where the Columbus Coated Fabrics factory once stood. The neighborhood is named for the park on Summit Street at its center.

The streets set the pattern for how we work here. Summit Street and Fourth Street run as a one-way pair straight through the middle, carrying a lot of commuter and bus traffic, and the east-west avenues are short blocks with parking on both sides. A driver coming to a car on Summit may have to circle around via Fourth to approach from the right direction. Most calls are for parked cars with dead batteries, flat tires, keys locked inside, or older cars that the owner wants taken to a shop or hauled off for scrap.

Our trucks are based at 1620 Harrisburg Pike on the far side of Downtown. The usual route is I-70 to I-71 north, leaving at 11th Avenue, which drops the driver at the top of the neighborhood. When I-71 is crawling, the driver can follow High Street up from Downtown instead. Each tow is quoted in full before the truck moves. Call (614) 633-8163, or use our online request form if you would rather type.

Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Weinland Park

  • Summit Street

One of the two one-way streets through the middle of the neighborhood, passing the park. Cars that stall here block a busy lane, so we try to move them fast.

  • North Fourth Street

The other half of the one-way pair. Its curb lanes are where many of our Weinland Park pickups happen.

  • East 11th Avenue

Leads to the I-71 exit east of the neighborhood and past the Pride Center and Grant Commons apartments.

  • East Fifth Avenue

The southern boundary shared with Italian Village, with an I-71 interchange that has no northbound off-ramp.

  • Chittenden Avenue

The northern boundary, where the student rental blocks of the University District begin.

  • Grant Avenue

Runs along the new houses of the Grant Park development on the east side.

  • East Sixth Avenue

Crosses the southern half of the neighborhood and meets Grant Avenue at Joyce Hughes Park. Residential and fairly calm, so it is an easy place to wait for the truck.

  • East Ninth Avenue

Home to Terrace Place, a 60-unit apartment building that opened in 2016. Residents' cars line the curb, so tell us whether you are in a lot or on the street.

Weinland Park towing questions

My car stalled on Summit Street in traffic. What should I do?

Turn your hazards on and stay in the car if traffic is moving fast around you. Call us and tell the dispatcher the nearest cross avenue. Because Summit runs one way, the driver may need to loop around on Fourth Street to come in behind you. If the car can be rolled, pushing it into a parking spot or side street makes the pickup quicker and safer for everyone, but only if you can do it without risk.

Why does the one-way traffic on Summit and Fourth matter for a tow?

A flatbed loads from the back, so the driver wants to pull up in front of your car, facing the same direction it is. On a one-way street, that means the truck has to come in the legal direction of traffic. Telling us which street and which side your car is on helps the driver plan the approach before reaching the neighborhood, rather than circling the block.

Can you haul away an old car I no longer want?

We can tow it to a scrap yard or salvage buyer you have arranged, and our junk car removal page explains how that works. You will need the title or other proof of ownership so the car can legally change hands. Cars that have sat in a backyard or alley for a long time may have flat tires or seized brakes, so tell us about that when you call.

Do you tow from the newer homes in the Grant Park area?

Yes. Grant Park and the newer houses along Grant Avenue and North Sixth Street often have rear garages or parking pads off the alley. The carrier may not fit into those spaces, so the driver uses the winch to pull the car out to the alley or street and loads it there. If you have an EV or a low car, mention it when you call so the driver comes prepared.

What route does your truck take to Weinland Park?

From our yard on Harrisburg Pike, most drivers take I-70 east and I-71 north to the 11th Avenue exit, which puts them at the top of the neighborhood. Because the Fifth Avenue exit only serves southbound traffic, it is not an option on the way up. When the interstate is backed up, High Street from Downtown is a slower but steady alternative. You get an approximate arrival time when you call.

My car will not start in front of my house. Can you jump it?

Yes. A jump start is a $75 roadside call. The driver connects a portable booster, starts the car, and checks whether the battery and alternator are working properly. If the battery is too weak, a replacement can be installed on the spot, which often costs less than a tow plus a shop visit. If the car still will not start, the driver can tow it to your mechanic.

Do you tow cars from Weinland Park to a repair shop?

We do, to any shop you pick. We are not mechanics ourselves, so we have no reason to steer you anywhere. If you do not have a regular shop, we can name an independent partner that looks over the car and gives you a quote before doing any work. If the shop is already closed, the car can be dropped in its after-hours lot with permission or held at our yard.

Which neighborhoods border Weinland Park?

To the south across Fifth Avenue is Italian Village, to the north and west is the University District, and a few blocks south and west is the Short North. Farther up High Street is Old North. We tow and provide roadside help in all of them, at the same published rates. If you are calling for someone else, such as a student or a relative, give us their location and phone number and we will keep them updated while the truck is on its way.
