Flatbed Towing for Italian Village, East of High

Brick side streets, new townhomes on the old Jeffrey factory ground, and a food hall crowd on Fourth Street. We send a flatbed north from our yard and work around all of it.

Italian Village is the wedge of the Near North Side between North High Street and the I-71 corridor, with I-670 along its south side and Fifth Avenue capping the north. It grew up around St. John the Baptist parish in the 1890s and spent much of the last century beside factories. Today the old Jeffrey Manufacturing land is a neighborhood of apartments and townhomes, and the 1916 Budd Dairy plant on Fourth Street is a food hall.

That mix produces a particular set of calls. Newer buildings around Jeffrey Park have tenant garages and gated lots where a driver needs a gate code or a manager's go-ahead. The older streets, places like Hamlet, Kerr and Lincoln, are narrow and often lined with parked cars on both sides, so the carrier sometimes loads from the end of the block. Fourth Street gets busy on weekend evenings, and the food hall and nearby bars mean we answer a fair number of dead-battery and locked-key calls there after dark.

Getting here means a drive across town. Our four flatbeds are based at 1620 Harrisburg Pike, so the driver usually heads east on I-70, picks up I-71 northbound and exits close to the neighborhood, or takes High Street straight up when the interstate is jammed. You hear the price before the driver sets out, and the dispatcher can tell you about how long the trip should take. Call (614) 633-8163 or send a request online.

Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Italian Village

  • North Fourth Street

The Village's commercial street, home to Budd Dairy Food Hall. Evening crowds and tight curbs mean the driver may stage a block away.

  • East Fifth Avenue

The northern edge, with shops and a busy I-71 interchange. The Fifth Avenue exit, Exit 110A, has no northbound off-ramp, which matters when we route a truck.

  • I-670

The southern edge, separating the Village from Downtown. Breakdowns on the ramps near Fourth Street are a common pickup.

  • North High Street

The western boundary shared with the Short North. Parking here is metered and often full.

  • East Second Avenue

Runs past the old industrial strip on its north side, where warehouses have turned into offices and apartments.

  • East Russell Street

A short street near the I-670 edge where an old firehouse stood until the freeway came through. Parking is tight, so the driver may load from the corner.

  • Auden Avenue

One of the newer streets inside the Jeffrey development, with a large mural on it. Garage and lot entrances here make a precise building number helpful.

  • Columbus-Worthington Pike

The 1823 name for what is now High Street on the Village's west edge. Today the curb is metered, so tell the dispatcher which block you are on.

Italian Village towing questions

Can you reach my car inside a Jeffrey Park garage or gated lot?

Yes, as long as the driver can get through the gate and the garage is tall enough for the carrier. Have the gate code ready or ask the leasing office to let us in. If the car is on a lower deck with a low ceiling, we can bring it up to the entrance before loading. Tell the dispatcher the building name and your parking level when you call.

Is it hard to tow during the Columbus Italian Festival?

The festival takes over the blocks around St. John the Baptist each October, and some streets close or fill up with visitors. We can still reach you, but it may take the driver longer to find a clear spot to load. If your car is parked inside the festival area, we may need to wait for a street to reopen or have you meet us at the edge of it.

My car won't start in a Fourth Street lot. Can you jump it instead of towing it?

That is usually where we start. A dead battery is a $75 roadside call, and the driver tests the battery and charging system after the jump. If the battery is finished, we can fit a replacement battery on the spot, or tow the car to your shop if something else is wrong. Night and weekend surcharges still apply, and the dispatcher includes them in the price you hear on the phone.

Why does the Fifth Avenue exit matter for my tow?

Because the I-71 exit at Fifth Avenue only works in one direction: there is no off-ramp for northbound traffic. Our trucks come from the southwest side, so the driver plans around that, often leaving I-71 earlier and finishing the trip on local streets. Knowing the closest cross street to you helps the driver pick the quickest approach, and so does telling us which way your car is facing.

My street is packed with parked cars on both sides. Can a flatbed still get in?

On most Village blocks, yes. If the carrier cannot get alongside your car, the driver can load from the end of the block or use a winch line to bring the car out to a wider spot. Cars parked in tight between others sometimes need dollies under the wheels. None of that changes the hook-up fee, but winching beyond a simple pull-out is billed at $150 an hour.

Can you tow my car from Italian Village to a shop in another part of Columbus?

Yes. Wherever you want it to go, we take it: a dealer, an independent mechanic, a collision shop chosen by your insurer, or your own driveway. Loaded miles are billed at $7 each. No shop in mind? We can point you to an independent partner that diagnoses first and quotes before any repair. We do not fix cars ourselves, so there is no pressure to use anyone in particular.

Do you tow motorcycles and scooters from the Village?

We do. Bikes ride on the flatbed in a wheel chock with soft straps over the frame, never through the wheels or bars. Scooters and small bikes go the same way. Let us know the make and model so the driver brings the right chock, and mention any fairing or low exhaust. Bikes parked on a sidewalk or behind a building can be walked out to the truck first. See motorcycle towing for details.

Which nearby neighborhoods do you cover from here?

Italian Village calls often continue to the Short North across High Street, Weinland Park to the north, Victorian Village to the west and Downtown over I-670. The full list is on our Columbus page. Because these blocks are close together, a driver finishing a job in one of them can sometimes reach you sooner than a truck coming straight from the yard. The dispatcher knows where every carrier is and will send whichever one makes sense.
