Harrison West Towing Beside the Olentangy River

Harrison West sits right against SR-315, which makes it one of the easier north-side neighborhoods for our trucks to reach from the southwest yard.

  • Open 24/7, 365 days
  • Flatbed-only fleet
  • Price quoted before dispatch
  • Licensed & insured

Harrison West fills the strip of the Near Northside between Harrison Avenue and the Olentangy River, from Goodale Street up to Fifth Avenue. Most of it is rows of older homes from the decades around 1900, plus newer townhouses and apartments near the river and in the former Thurber Village area to the southeast, which joined the neighborhood in 2008. Olentangy River Road and SR-315 run along its western edge, with the river trail between them and the houses.

For a tow company, the freeway next door is the big factor. Our flatbeds leave 1620 Harrisburg Pike, pick up SR-315 and can come off at the Goodale connector at the southwest corner of the neighborhood. That makes this one of the shorter trips we run north of Downtown, although rush-hour backups on 315 can still slow things down. Breakdowns on 315 itself, especially near the Goodale and King Avenue ramps, are a regular call for us, and we often end up taking those cars into Harrison West shops or home driveways.

Inside the neighborhood, the work looks a lot like the rest of the Near Northside: cars parked on the street that will not start, flat tires on cold mornings, and the occasional car stuck in a tight rear garage off an alley. Parks like Wheeler Memorial, with its dog area, and Harrison Park see plenty of weekend visitors, and lockouts there are common. The dispatcher gives you a full price first. Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Harrison West

  • SR-315 along the Olentangy

The freeway on the west side of the neighborhood. We take a lot of breakdown calls on this stretch and use it as our main route in.

  • Olentangy River Road

Runs beside the river on the western boundary. Stalled cars here are usually near the freeway ramps.

  • Goodale Street and the SR-315C connector

The southwest corner, where traffic leaves the freeway and heads into the Near Northside.

  • Fifth Avenue

The northern boundary, a busy cross-town route with a bridge over the Olentangy.

  • Harrison Avenue and Neil Avenue

The eastern side of the neighborhood, lined with parked cars and close to Victorian Village.

  • Third Avenue

Crosses the Olentangy near Perry Street, with the river trail passing under the bridge.

  • Quality Place

A short street at one end of Harrison Park. On summer concert nights curb space around the park gets scarce, so the driver may stage on First Avenue instead.

Harrison West landmarks drivers ask about

Parks

  • Wheeler Memorial Park

On Thurber Drive West, a block from Neil Avenue, with a large fenced off-leash dog area.

  • Harrison Park

Summer concerts happen at the gazebo in this green, which sits off Harrison Park Place north of First Avenue.

  • Olentangy Trail

The paved river trail that runs through Harrison West on its way from Downtown to Worthington.

  • Harrison West Park

The first park the neighborhood ever had, on the Fourth Avenue corner of Oregon Street; it has swings and a play area for small kids.

  • Perry Street Park

The newest green in the neighborhood, at the corner of Third Avenue and Perry Street, used for kites and frisbee. A clear landmark to give if you stall nearby.

  • Olentangy Recreation Trail

The full name of the multi-use path along the river. If you parked to use the trail and the car will not start, tell us the nearest street that meets it.

Landmarks

  • Fourth Avenue School

A 1904 school building that closed in the 1970s and now holds apartments for seniors.

  • Third Avenue Bridge

The Olentangy crossing a block west of Perry Street; the trail ducks under it, and the bridge approach is no place to wait, so pull onto a side street if you can.

  • Near Northside Historic District

A district of about 70 blocks of homes, mostly built between 1870 and 1920, with Harrison West as its western part.

Hospitals

  • Ohio State Wexner Medical Center

A short drive north via SR-315's King Avenue exit. We pick up patients' and visitors' cars that won't start there.

Harrison West towing questions

My car broke down on SR-315 next to Harrison West. What should I do?

Pull right, onto the widest bit of shoulder you can find, switch the flashers on and keep your belt fastened inside the car unless it feels unsafe to stay put. Call (614) 633-8163 and say whether you were northbound or southbound and which ramp you last passed, for example Goodale Street or King Avenue. SR-315 has short shoulders in places, so police may ask that the car be moved quickly. Highway pickups carry a $75 surcharge on our rate card.

Can you tow from the lots at Wheeler Memorial Park?

Yes. Dead batteries and keys locked in cars at the dog park are among our more common calls in Harrison West. Tell the dispatcher which part of the park you are in. If you only need a lockout or jump, it is a $75 flat fee and the car stays where it is. If the car needs to go somewhere, the driver loads it in the lot and takes it wherever you choose.

Do you take cars from Harrison West to a shop near the medical center or campus?

We take cars to any shop you choose, near campus or anywhere else in the area. A shop in Grandview, one by campus, or your regular mechanic across town are all fine; the price simply depends on the loaded miles. We are not a repair shop, but if you want a referral, we can suggest an independent partner shop that diagnoses the car and quotes before starting work.

Can a flatbed get into my garage off the alley?

Many Harrison West homes have small detached garages off narrow alleys. The carrier itself rarely fits inside, but the driver can use the winch line to pull your car out to the alley or street and then load it. If the car does not roll, for example because of a locked brake or flat tires, dollies may be needed. Tell us what is wrong with the car when you call.

Why is Harrison West often a quicker trip than other north-side neighborhoods?

Because it sits right on SR-315. From our yard on the southwest side, the driver can follow the freeway north and come off at the Goodale connector at the neighborhood's corner. Neighborhoods farther from 315 or I-71, like Linden or Clintonville, mean more surface-street driving. The dispatcher still checks traffic before quoting a time, since 315 slows down at rush hour.

Do you tow electric cars in Harrison West?

Yes. A lot of the newer townhomes near the river have EVs in the garage, and they ride on the carrier deck so no wheel turns during the trip. EVs use our EV rate card: $2.50 per mile en route, $150 to hook up and $7.50 per loaded mile. If the car is out of charge, we can bring it to a charger or your home. See EV towing.

Can you help with a flat tire on Fifth Avenue?

Yes. If the car has a usable spare, the driver mounts it for the flat $75 roadside fee. Fifth Avenue is busy, so we may first move the car to a side street or lot if it is stopped in a traffic lane. If there is no spare or the wheel is damaged, we tow it to a tire shop. More on our flat tire page.

What neighborhoods do you cover next to Harrison West?

Harrison West borders Victorian Village to the east, the University District to the north, and Franklinton across the river to the southwest. We also serve Grandview Heights just west of SR-315. All of them get the same flatbed service and the same published prices. On a busy evening, the dispatcher may route a truck that is already finishing a job in one of those areas, which can shorten the wait compared with a run straight from Harrisburg Pike.
