Schumacher Place Tows, Jumps and Lockouts

Schumacher Place shares German Village's brick-and-cottage look, with Nationwide Children's Hospital looming just across Parsons.

Schumacher Place is the neighborhood east of German Village, bounded by Livingston Avenue on the north, Parsons Avenue on the east and Whittier Street on the south. Its streets carry the same tightly packed nineteenth-century homes as its western neighbor, and a few of its blocks are even part of the German Village historic listing. A good deal of the land was once the Schumacher family's farm and dairy, and a ballpark here hosted Ohio State's first home football game in 1890.

The towing work here comes from two directions. Inside the neighborhood, cars live at the curb or in small garages off alleys, and residential permit parking started on many blocks in spring 2025, so visitors and contractors often park a few blocks from where they are going. That means more calls where the owner is not sure exactly which street the car is on, and more cars wedged between neighbors. On the edges, Parsons Avenue and Livingston Avenue are busy, and Nationwide Children's Hospital, on the far side of Parsons, sends a stream of visiting families and staff through the area at every hour.

From our yard on Harrisburg Pike, our trucks come across the river and around the south end of downtown to reach you. I-70 runs right along the northern edge, with an eastbound exit at Parsons. Every car goes on a flatbed, and the dispatcher reads you the total before anyone leaves. Reach us at (614) 633-8163 or through the online request.

Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Schumacher Place

  • Parsons Avenue

The eastern boundary, facing the Nationwide Children's campus. Busy at shift changes, with turning traffic and bus stops; give the driver the closest cross street.

  • East Livingston Avenue

Runs along the north side next to I-70. Wider than the interior streets, so it is often where we set up to load.

  • East Whittier Street

The southern line, where Schumacher Place meets Merion Village.

  • South Grant Avenue

A north-south street through the middle of the neighborhood, crossing the site of the old Recreation Park.

  • Kossuth, Sycamore and Lathrop streets

Narrow residential blocks with cars packed on both curbs, where most of our in-neighborhood calls come from.

  • Ebner Street

Bordered the old Recreation Park ballfield on one side. Now it is a tight residential street, so the driver may load from the nearest corner.

  • Brust Street

One of the short streets along the German Village side. Say which end you are nearer, because the two neighborhoods meet here.

  • Briggs Street and South Ninth Street

Blocks on the western edge that were included in the German Village historic listing. Tight curbs mean the driver may set up at a corner and winch the car out.

  • East Blenkner Street

A cross street near the German Village line; a useful corner to give if your car is on Ninth or a side alley close by.

  • Forest Street

Remembered locally as the first street in the area to be paved. Parking runs bumper to bumper, so expect a short winch to the truck if the car is wedged in.

  • Children's Drive

The hospital's address street just across Parsons. If your car is in a hospital garage, tell us the garage and level so the driver can find it.

Landmarks

  • Recreation Park marker

A historical marker for the ballpark where the Buckeyes played their first home game, on the block around Ebner and Kossuth streets.

  • Beck Street School

An 1884 school building by Columbus architect David Riebel, now home to a charter school.

Parks

  • Kobacker Park

A small park with a basketball court and playground on Parsons Avenue.

  • Livingston Park

An old city cemetery turned park, sitting in front of the hospital north of Livingston Avenue.

Schumacher Place towing questions

How does the Schumacher Place permit parking affect a tow?

It does not stop us from towing your own car, but it matters in two ways. First, if you parked on a permit block without a permit, the car may already have been ticketed or towed by someone else, so check before you call. Second, our driver needs a legal spot to set up the flatbed briefly. Tell us the block and whether the car sits in a permit zone.

I parked several blocks away and am not sure what street my car is on. Can you still find it?

Help us narrow it down. Give the dispatcher the make, color and plate number, plus the area where you think you left it. Many visitors to Schumacher Place park farther away than they planned because of the permit zones. If you can walk to the car and send us the corner from your phone's map, the driver will find it much faster.

My car won't start in a Nationwide Children's Hospital garage. Can you come?

Yes. Garage calls at the hospital are common, from parents who have been inside all day to staff finishing a late shift. Tell us the garage name, level and nearest elevator. Hospital garages may have low clearance, so if a tow is needed, the driver might jump the car or move it to street level first. A jump start is part of our $75 roadside rate.

Is there an I-70 exit for Parsons Avenue?

There is an eastbound-only exit at Parsons Avenue at the north end of the neighborhood. If you are heading west, you will need a different ramp. If your car is failing on I-70 near downtown, getting off at Parsons and pulling onto a side street is often safer than stopping on the shoulder. Then call us with the street name and nearest corner.

Can you tow out of an alley garage in Schumacher Place?

Usually. Many homes here have small garages facing narrow alleys, which are hard for any truck to turn into. Our approach is to back in where possible or winch the car out to the street, then load it. If the car will not roll because the parking brake is stuck or it is in gear, tell the dispatcher so the driver brings dollies.

How much is a tow from Schumacher Place to a shop on Parsons?

A short tow inside the south side is one of the lower-priced jobs we do. It starts with $4 a mile for our truck to reach you from Harrisburg Pike, then $125 to load the car, then $7 for every mile it rides to the shop. Nights, weekends and extra winching add to that. The dispatcher works out the full amount before sending a truck, and our rates page lists every charge.

Do you serve German Village and Driving Park too?

Yes. Schumacher Place sits between German Village to the west and Driving Park to the east, and we cover both, along with Merion Village to the south. Wherever you are on the south and east sides, call the same number and get the same published rates. The dispatcher can also tell you whether a jump, a tire change or a lockout will solve the problem on the spot, so you only pay for a tow when the car truly needs one.
