King-Lincoln Bronzeville sits on the near east side, across I-71 from downtown and north of Broad Street. For much of the twentieth century it was the center of Black business and culture in Columbus, with Long Street and Mount Vernon Avenue lined with clubs, shops and churches. Highway building in the 1960s cut it off from downtown, and decades of revival work since have brought back the Lincoln Theatre, the King Arts Complex, a rebuilt library and new homes on many blocks.

For a tow truck, the neighborhood is a mix of busy corridors and quiet residential streets. Long Street is the main way in from downtown, crossing I-71 on a bridge that ties the two sides together. Mount Vernon Avenue runs parallel to the north, and Champion, Ohio and Taylor avenues cross between them. Houses range from Victorian homes in the Hamilton Park district to newer infill, and most have street parking or a short driveway. On the eastern edge, Ohio State's hospital on Taylor Avenue brings patients, visitors and staff in at every hour.

We reach the near east side from our Harrisburg Pike yard by way of I-70 or I-71 and the downtown streets. Show nights at the Lincoln, a battery that died outside a church on Sunday, or a sedan stuck dead on a hospital parking deck are typical calls. Each one is quoted in full before a flatbed leaves the yard. Call (614) 633-8163 or use the online request.

Street by street

Where we pick up cars in King-Lincoln Bronzeville

  • East Long Street

The historic main street, home to the Lincoln Theatre and the library branch. Event nights at the theater fill curb parking along it.

  • Mount Vernon Avenue

Runs east-west through the north part of the neighborhood past the King Arts Complex and Mount Vernon Plaza.

  • I-71 (west edge)

The interstate between the neighborhood and downtown. Ramp breakdowns close to the Long Street crossing are frequent highway calls.

  • East Broad Street

The southern boundary, wide and fast. Stopped cars here need to be moved quickly.

  • Taylor Avenue

On the eastern edge at OSU Hospital East, where garage and lot calls come in day and night.

  • Champion Avenue

A residential north-south street on the east side of the neighborhood, with Union Grove Baptist Church along it. Curbs are lined with parked cars, so a flatbed often stops in the travel lane with hazards on.

  • Atcheson Street

Runs along the northern blocks near Saunders Park and forms part of the edge of the Mount Vernon Avenue historic district. A quiet street where loading is usually simple.

King-Lincoln Bronzeville towing questions

My car won't start after a show at the Lincoln Theatre. Can you help?

Yes. Show nights fill Long Street and nearby lots, and dead batteries and lockouts after a performance are common calls. Tell the dispatcher which side of Long Street you parked on and the nearest cross street. A jump or lockout is part of our $75 roadside rate; late-night calls after 10 PM add the overnight surcharge. If the car needs a tow, we take it wherever you want.

Can you tow from the OSU Hospital East garage or lots?

Yes. Visitors and staff reach out about drained batteries, soft tires and locked doors in the garage and surface lots off Taylor Avenue. Tell us the lot or garage level. Some garage clearances are too low for a flatbed, so if the car needs a tow, the driver may first move it to an open area. If you are inside with a patient, keep your ringer on; the driver will phone when the truck pulls in.

Do you tow from the Long Street bridge over I-71?

Yes. The bridge connects the neighborhood to downtown, and a car stalled on it or on the nearby ramps blocks traffic quickly. Turn on the hazards and stay safe. If you are on a city street, our normal rates apply; if you are on an I-71 ramp or the interstate, there is a $75 highway surcharge. Give the dispatcher your direction and the nearest street.

Can you tow from a church parking lot on Sunday?

Yes. The neighborhood has many historic churches, and Sunday-morning dead batteries are a common call. Weekend jobs carry a $50 surcharge, and we can usually solve a battery problem on the spot with a jump. If the car needs to go to a shop that is closed on Sunday, we can keep it at our yard and deliver it on Monday. Storage is $45 a day.

How do you reach King-Lincoln Bronzeville from your yard?

Trucks leave from Harrisburg Pike, southwest of downtown. Most trips run up I-71 or across downtown on I-70, then onto Long Street or Mount Vernon Avenue. Downtown traffic and event closures can slow things down. Before you commit, the dispatcher checks the board and tells you how far out the nearest flatbed is right then; we never promise a fixed number of minutes.

Can you tow a car from the Hamilton Park historic district?

Yes. Hamilton Park is a small district of homes from roughly 1880 to 1930, laid out on three parallel streets. Curb parking and short connecting blocks can make tight turns for a flatbed. Give us the house number and which of the streets the car is on. If the truck cannot reach it directly, the driver can winch it a short way to a better spot before loading.

Do you help with junk or abandoned cars in the neighborhood?

If you own a car you no longer want and have the title, we can arrange junk car removal. If a car is abandoned on your property, contact the city or police first, because Ohio law sets rules for removing someone else's vehicle. Property managers can set up private property towing with proper signs at their lot. Call the office to talk through which option fits before anything is moved.
