Brewery District Tow Service Along Front and High

Old brewery buildings, new apartments and a Metro Park on the river: the Brewery District mixes nightlife traffic with quiet brick side streets.

The Brewery District takes its name from the German breweries that once lined South Front Street, and the brick shells of several of them still stand. Today the area between I-70 and Greenlawn Avenue holds apartments in old brewhouses, a live-performance theater, restaurants, the Front and Fulton redevelopment of the old Hoster complex, and, out toward the river, Scioto Audubon Metro Park. For our trucks it is a quick trip: we cross the Scioto from the southwest side and are on Front Street in short order.

Two kinds of calls dominate. On Front and High, nights and weekends bring diners and showgoers, and with them dead batteries, lights left on and keys locked inside. Lots here range from small private pads behind restaurants to street spaces, and some of them are signed for tow-away, so we always ask whose lot you are in. South of Frankfort Street the district turns residential, with brick houses and narrow side streets where a car can sit unused for a week and then refuse to start.

Out on the Whittier Street peninsula, the Metro Park draws climbers, dog owners and birders, and its lots are where we get called for flat tires and no-starts. Construction around Front and Fulton has shifted lanes, so give us the cross street and what you can see around you. We quote first and tow on a flatbed every time. Street by street

Where we pick up cars in Brewery District

  • South Front Street

The old brewery row. Restaurant and theater traffic plus redevelopment work at Front and Fulton make it the district's busiest street for us.

  • South High Street

Runs along the east side past the mid-century South Wind Motel and churches; curb parking and turning traffic make a precise block helpful.

  • Greenlawn Avenue

The southern line, leading west across the river and east toward I-71. A frequent route for our trucks coming from Harrisburg Pike.

  • Whittier Street

Heads west to Scioto Audubon Metro Park and the Audubon Center, where most of our park-lot calls start.

  • I-70 (north edge)

The interstate separates the district from downtown. Breakdowns near the Front Street ramps are highway calls with a $75 surcharge.

  • Short Street

The line between the older brick blocks and the former industrial land west toward the river, sometimes called the Oxbow. Tell us which side of it you are on.

  • Furnace Street

A short street by the electrical substation with the tall stone Needles of Stone sculptures, a landmark the driver can spot from a distance.

  • Maier Place

A small side street with a bouldering gym on it. If the curb is full, the driver may stop in the street briefly to load, with flashers on.

Brewery District landmarks drivers ask about

Parks

  • Scioto Audubon Metro Park

A riverside park of about 120 acres with wetlands, a dog park and an outdoor climbing wall; weekend lots fill fast.

  • Greenlawn Park

City riverfront land on Greenlawn Avenue with a greenway trailhead and a parking area.

  • Keller Park

A narrow half-acre strip of city land on South Front Street with a wooded edge and a path onto the greenway.

  • Scioto Audubon Dog Park

The fenced dog area inside the Metro Park, split into large-dog and small-dog sides. If your car won't start after a visit, name the dog park so the driver heads to the right lot.

  • Hermit Thrush Trail

A very short mulched path in Scioto Audubon that leads to the restored wetlands; park in the main lot if you are meeting us there.

Landmarks

  • Grange Insurance Audubon Center

The nature center on West Whittier Street, opened in 2009, with classrooms and an auditorium.

  • Shadowbox Live

A live-show theater inside the old Worly Building, once a Hoster Brewing horse barn.

  • Front and Fulton

The former Hoster Brewing complex being turned into offices, apartments and restaurants.

  • King Gambrinus statue

The restored beer king statue, set in a tiny green where Sycamore meets Front.

  • Schlee Brewery Historic District

Six brick commercial buildings from the late 1800s on South Front Street, on the National Register since 1988.

  • Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church

A congregation dating to 1882 whose current church on South High Street was finished in 1954.

Brewery District towing questions

Can you jump my car after a show at Shadowbox Live?

Yes. A dead battery after an evening show is one of the most common calls we get in the Brewery District. Tell the dispatcher whether you parked in a lot near the theater or on the street, and the driver will come to you. Jump starts fall under our $75 roadside flat rate, with the overnight surcharge applying only between 10 PM and 6 AM.

My car is in a private restaurant lot on Front Street. Can you still tow it?

Yes, if it is your car. Let the business know you are arranging a tow, because some lots on Front and High have tow-away signs and owners like to know why a car is still there after closing. Our driver will need to confirm the car belongs to you. If the lot has a gate or chain, check that it will be open when we arrive.

Is the Front and Fulton construction a problem for towing?

It can change how we approach a car. Work on the old Hoster complex has narrowed some lanes and closed curb space near Front and Fulton streets. If you break down close to the site, give us the nearest open intersection and describe any cones or barriers around you. The driver may load from a side street rather than block a work zone.

Do you help in the Scioto Audubon Metro Park lots?

Yes. Climbers, dog walkers and birders use the park's lots every day, and we get called there for flat tires, lockouts and cars that won't start. Tell us which lot you are in, such as near the climbing wall, the dog park or the Audubon Center. A tire change is part of the $75 roadside rate if you have a usable spare.

Can you tow from the residential streets south of Frankfort Street?

Yes. The blocks running down toward Greenlawn Avenue are mostly brick homes with street parking or small driveways. Cars there sometimes sit for days and come back with a weak battery or a soft tire. If it needs a tow, our flatbed can usually load right at the curb; if the street is crowded, the driver might pull the car forward to an open stretch first.

How do you reach the Brewery District from your yard?

We dispatch from Harrisburg Pike on the southwest side, just across the Scioto from the district. Depending on traffic, the driver may come over the river on local streets or use the interstate, and the dispatcher will give you a live estimate before you commit. Because the distance is short, the en-route charge, at $4 a mile, adds little to the total.

Can you tow a motorcycle from the Brewery District?

Yes. Motorcycles ride on our flatbed with wheel chocks and soft straps so nothing scratches the paint or bends a fender. Restaurant and bar parking areas along Front and High see a fair number of bikes on warm evenings. Tell us the make and model, whether the bike has a kickstand or a center stand, and if it can still roll. Our motorcycle towing page explains more.
