The Crew moved out of their original stadium near the state fairgrounds when their downtown home opened in 2021 on the western side of the Arena District, a short walk from Huntington Park and Nationwide Arena. Match days now pack a stadium full of soccer fans into the same few blocks of garages, lots and side streets, often on summer evenings when engines are already working hard. Our Columbus Crew stadium towing calls reflect that: overheating, empty tanks after a long idle in traffic, and the usual dead batteries and locked doors.
Auto Lyft USA dispatches four flatbed carriers from Harrisburg Pike, just southwest of downtown. The stadium sits close to the freeway ramps on that side of the city, so on a normal day it is an easy drive. On match days we plan around the crowds and any street closures near the venue, and we tell you plainly what that means for timing.
Most fans never need us. For the ones who do, the goal is simple: a fair price stated up front, help that fits the actual problem, and a car that ends up where you want it, whether that is your driveway or a shop.
Hot evenings are hard on cars
Much of the soccer season runs through Ohio's hottest months. A car that crawls for half an hour toward the ramps with the air conditioning on full can push its cooling system past the limit, especially if a hose, fan or thermostat was already marginal. If the temperature gauge climbs into the red or steam appears, pull over somewhere safe and shut the engine off. Driving on can turn a cheap repair into a ruined engine.
Our guide on what to do when a car overheats walks through the safe steps. If the car will not cool down or keeps overheating, a flatbed tow to a shop is the right call.
A short pre-match checklist
A few minutes of attention before you leave home prevents a lot of the calls we get from this part of downtown.
- Fill the tank. Post-match traffic can mean a long stretch of idling, and a light already on at kickoff may not last.
- Snap a photo of the nearest garage sign or lot marker when you park, so you can tell us exactly where the car is.
- Keep the key fob in a zipped pocket rather than a jersey or a cup holder.
- Turn off interior lights and unplug chargers or coolers before you walk to the gates.
- Check that your spare tire actually has air in it, so a flat can be fixed in a few minutes.
Telling us where to find the car
The garages and lots around the stadium are close together, and several of them also serve the arena, the ballpark and nearby offices. Read us the name on your parking receipt or app, the level if you are in a structure, and the street you entered from. If you parked on the street, give the two nearest cross streets and which side you are on.
Our rate page has every number we charge. On a match day, the usual figures are a $75 roadside flat rate or a tow at $125 plus $7 per loaded mile, with $4 a mile for the drive out. If you run dry, fuel delivery is $75 plus the fuel at three times the pump price.
Columbus Crew stadium: what drivers ask
What does Columbus Crew stadium towing cost after a Saturday match?
A Saturday call gets the normal $50 weekend charge on top of the regular rate. A tow is $125 to hook up and $7 for every mile the car rides on the deck, plus $4 a mile for our drive to the stadium. If the match runs late and the call comes after 10 PM, the overnight fee applies too. You will hear the full total before we dispatch.
My car overheated in post-match traffic. Can I just let it cool and keep going?
Sometimes, if it was a one-off caused by a hot evening and a long crawl. Let it cool fully with the engine off and never open a hot radiator cap. If the gauge climbs again once you start moving, or coolant is pouring out, stop and call us. Pushing on with a failing cooling system can warp the engine and turn a hose replacement into a much larger bill.
I ran out of gas waiting to leave the garage. Can you bring fuel?
Yes. Our fuel delivery service brings enough gas to get you to a station. The charge is $75 plus the fuel itself at three times the local pump price, along with $4 a mile from our yard. If you are deep inside a garage, tell us the level so the driver can walk the fuel up if the truck cannot reach your space.
Can you reach the stadium while the streets around it are closed?
Our trucks follow the same traffic controls as everyone else, so a closed street stays closed for us. The driver will come in by whichever route is open and may meet you at the nearest reachable corner if the car can be driven a short way. If not, we may wait until barriers come down. The dispatcher will keep you updated rather than guess.
Do you tow from the garages that serve the Crew stadium?
We do when the garage has enough height and room for a flatbed. Clearances differ from one structure to the next, so give us the garage name and the level. If the carrier cannot fit, the driver can still jump the battery, unlock the car or change a tire inside, which handles most match day problems.
My keys are locked in the car and my kids are with me. What should I do?
With a child or a pet shut in a hot car, dial 911 before anyone else, because emergency crews can respond faster than any tow company. If everyone is safely outside and only the keys are locked in, call us. Find some shade, keep the kids hydrated, and the driver will open the car with professional lockout tools.
Can you take my car home to Hilliard or Grove City after a breakdown here?
Yes. We tow to homes and shops all over Franklin County and beyond. Give the dispatcher your full destination address, and the quote will include the loaded mileage from the stadium to that address. If you would rather wait for your regular mechanic to open, we will park it in our own lot overnight and deliver it once the shop opens.
Does a dead battery at the stadium always mean paying for a tow?
Yes. A jump start is a $75 roadside call plus en-route mileage, which costs much less than a tow. Most batteries that die during a match are just drained, not broken, and a jump is all they need. If the battery is past saving, the driver can tell you and we can replace it or carry the car to a shop.
